A 62 year old male was complaining of decreased vision in his right eye for the last months. He suffers from diabetes mellitus and underwent focal laser treatment to his right eye in the past.
On examination: visual acuity was 20/200 in the right eye and 20/25 in the left. The anterior segments and intraocular pressure were within normal limits. Dilated fundus examination revealed scattered retinal hemorrhages and microaneurysms. In addition, retinal edema temporal to the macula was noted in the right eye. |
| RTA color composite fundus of the left eye showing scattered small retinal hemorrhages and microaneurysms as well as hard exudates temporally. |

| Fluorescein angiography of the right eye displayed multiple leaking microaneurysms and significant leakage was apparent in the macula extending from the fovea temporally. |
Retina thickness map of the right eye displays significant thickening of the fovea, extending temporally, corresponding to the clinically edematous area and the leakage on fluorescein angiography. Loss of foveal contour corresponded to the decreased visual acuity in the right eye. |
Fluorescein angiography of the left eye displayed multiple leaking microaneurysms with intact fovea. |
Thickness map of the left eyes discloses normal foveal contour while the perifoveal area is thickened. The thickening sourounding the fovea corresponds to leakage from microaneurysms demonstrated by fluorescein angiography. The normal visual acuity correlates with the preserved foveal contour. |
